Pedraforca, with its two summits separated by the Enforcadura

Legendary, iconic, unmistakable: Pedraforca

ENRITERRA · Pre-Pyrenees · 1-day routes

Pedraforca, one of Catalonia’s most iconic mountains

Pedraforca is one of Catalonia’s most emblematic mountains and a true symbol of Catalan hiking. Its silhouette, with two summits separated by the Enforcadura saddle, has made it one of the most recognisable mountains in the country.

But it’s not just a beautiful mountain: it has a unique geology, legends, hiking history, climbing, mining, livestock farming and natural heritage. Come and discover it with us.

Our route starts at the Mirador de Gresolet and, via the Coll del Verdet, heads for the Pollegó Superior (2,506 m), the summit of Pedraforca.

🏔 ENRITERRA logistics support

TD2 qualified mid-mountain guide and logistics coordination for the whole day.

🚗 ENRITERRA will also help coordinate car-sharing so we can travel together with as few cars as possible: less effort, lower costs and less pollution.

⚠️ Important: a demanding route, level 4/6. You will need good fitness to climb around 1,150 m of elevation gain and feel comfortable on high-mountain terrain with short scrambles. The ascent via the Coll del Verdet has easy scrambling sections where you will need to use your hands, with some exposure: not recommended for people with vertigo.

What makes this route special

  • The summit of Pedraforca, the Pollegó Superior (2,506 m), with views over the Cadí, the Berguedà and much of the Pyrenees.
  • The ascent via the Coll del Verdet, the classic north-face route, with easy scrambling sections.
  • The Enforcadura, the fork between the two summits that gives the mountain its shape and name.
  • Geology, legends and Catalan hiking history explained along the way.
  • Circular route from the Mirador de Gresolet, in the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park.

The route step by step

1 — Mirador de Gresolet → Coll del Verdet

We set off from the Mirador de Gresolet car park and climb through the forest, at the foot of Pedraforca’s north face, to the Coll del Verdet.

2 — Coll del Verdet → Pollegó Superior (2.506 m)

The most technical part of the day: we follow the ridge with easy scrambling sections, using our hands, to the top of the Pollegó Superior, the highest point of Pedraforca.

3 — The descent via the Enforcadura

Watch out on the descent, which is quite tough. From the Enforcadura we go down the alternative path built a few years ago beside the scree, next to the Pollegó Inferior: the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park asks hikers not to descend the scree to limit erosion, and this waymarked path is safer. Even so, it is a long, steep descent over stony ground that tests legs and knees.

4 — Lluís Estasen hut → Mirador de Gresolet

We pass the Lluís Estasen hut and close the loop back at the Mirador de Gresolet car park.
