Two days of winter snowshoeing routes in Tavascan

Start the year walking through snowy forests, frozen lakes and silent mountains. Taking advantage of the first days of January, we invite you into the Alt Pirineu Natural Park to explore the Pleta del Prat on snowshoes, combining physical activity, interpretation of the land and basic notions of orientation and safety in winter terrain. Some prior snowshoeing experience is recommended, although good fitness can make up for a lack of it.

🏔 ENRITERRA logistical support

Certified mountain guiding and full logistical support. For the night between the two routes we’ll help you find accommodation in Tavascan — we’ll give you all the details once you confirm your interest.

What makes this route special

  • The first steps of the year in the snow, deep in the Alt Pirineu Natural Park.
  • The Pleta del Prat setting, one of the most spectacular winter landscapes of the Catalan Pyrenees.
  • Interpretation of the environment: formation of glacial lakes, wildlife tracks, orientation and safety in winter terrain.
  • Option to extend the second day to Pic de la Coma del Forn (2,685 m), conditions permitting.
  • Small group (maximum 8 participants) to look after safety and attention to each person.

Day by day

Day 1 — Trencacalders

10.8 km · +560 m / −560 m

We meet early in the morning at Pleta del Prat: introductions, gear check and briefing for the two days. The first day lets us gradually get used to snowshoe technique, through black pine forests and wide snowy slopes to the Trencacalders area, a natural balcony over the Cardós valley.

Day 2 — Estanys de Mascarida and del Diable

5.6 km · +600 m / −600 m

From Tavascan we drive our own vehicles to Pleta del Prat, the starting point. The goal is to reach the Estanys de Mascarida and del Diable, a glacial landscape surrounded by peaks around 2,700 metres.

Conditions permitting, we’ll extend the route to Pic de la Coma del Forn (2,685 m) —8.8 km · +960 m / −960 m, high difficulty— one of the most emblematic snowshoe ascents in the area. Safety will always be the main criterion.
