Costa da Morte: Camiño dos Faros

From Malpica to Fisterra on foot, through the wildest, most authentic stretch of Galicia: 8 days along the Camiño dos Faros, a trail over 200 km long between cliffs, unspoilt beaches and fishing villages, passing through Ponteceso, Camelle and the percebeiro (goose barnacle) grounds, all the way to legendary Cabo Fisterra —where the Romans believed the known world ended.

🏔 ENRITERRA logistical support

TD2 qualified mid-mountain guide and full logistical support: accommodation, transport and every detail, coordinated with local partners in the area.

What makes this route special

  • 8 days and ~107 km along the most authentic, least crowded stretch of the Camiño dos Faros, from Malpica to Fisterra.
  • Walking without crowds: a real gift at a time when mass tourism makes it hard to find such magical places that still keep the hiker’s solitude.
  • Enjoying Galician food in one of the best places imaginable, with connections to the best local restaurants and the option to order fresh goose barnacles.
  • Meeting the wonderful people of the Costa da Morte, who will make us feel truly welcome.
  • Discovering the traditions and the famous shipwreck history of the Costa da Morte.
  • Visiting the lighthouses of Cabo Vilán, Touriñán and Fisterra and learning about their history, importance and how they work.
  • Ponteceso, land of poet Eduardo Pondal, and Camelle, with the memory of “O Alemán”.
  • A mix of two- and three-night stays in the same towns, with changes of accommodation to get to know different fishing villages in the area.
  • Optional landing on the Sisargas Islands, an experience almost no agency offers.
  • Luggage transferred between accommodations: we walk with just a daypack.

Day by day

Day 1 — Malpica, the roar of the Atlantic and the Sisargas

11 km · +300 m

Arrival in A Coruña and transfer to Malpica, the starting point. First stage along the cliffs of Cabo de San Adrián, with the Sisargas Islands as a lookout over the ocean. Night in Malpica.

Optional — Landing on the Sisargas Islands: if sea conditions allow, we’ll take a boat to the Sisargas Islands and hike across them, something almost no agency offers. We’ll be able to enjoy this protected area practically to ourselves. Landing is only allowed once the nesting season is over, after the summer. It costs around €20 extra, paid on the spot, but trust us: it’s worth it!

Day 2 — Ponteceso and Laxe, the land of Eduardo Pondal

16.4 km · +230 m

Transfer and luggage transport to Ponteceso, birthplace of poet Eduardo Pondal. We walk to Laxe, a fishing town on a calm estuary. Night in Laxe.

Day 3 — From Laxe to Camelle, the most genuine Costa da Morte

15 km · +300 m

Walking departure from Laxe: hidden coves and cliffs to Camelle, where the memory of Man, “O Alemán”, and his sculpture garden still lives on. Transport back to Laxe.

Day 4 — From Arou to Cabo Vilán, the heart of the Costa da Morte

17 km · +400 m

A long stage, but the star stage, right in the heart of the Costa da Morte. From Arou, small and white, smelling of goose barnacles, we follow the coast to the Cabo Vilán lighthouse. Option to visit the Cabo Vilán interpretation centre (€5). Transport back to Laxe.

Day 5 — From Muxía to the Touriñán lighthouse

18 km · +550 m

Transport to Muxía, land of percebeiros and Atlantic legends. Another long stage to the Touriñán lighthouse, the westernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula. Night in Muxía.

Day 6 — From Touriñán to Praia do Rostro

15 km · +300 m

From Touriñán we follow the wild coast south to Praia do Rostro, one of the most unspoilt beaches in Galicia. Night in Muxía.

Day 7 — From Praia de Arnela to legendary Cabo Fisterra

14.5 km · +450 m

We’ll walk close to the highest cliffs of the Costa da Morte, with the final goal of reaching what the Romans considered the end of the world: Finis Terrae. Boat trip along the coast of Cabo Fisterra. Night in Fisterra.

Day 8 — Farewell

Breakfast, farewell and transfer to Santiago or A Coruña airport, depending on convenience and prices. End of the trek.

Eight days along the most authentic stretch of the Camiño dos Faros: lighthouses, cliffs, hidden coves and fishing villages, all the way to the place where the Romans believed the world ended.
